Proto set for Anderlecht

Arsenal target Silvio Proto has agreed to join Anderlecht from La Louviere.

The Belgium international has been courted by several leading European clubs, with the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain having watched the goalkeeper.

Premiership outfit Arsenal were strongly linked with an offer for Proto but the 22-year-old shot-stopper has previously stressed it is too early to move abroad.

Proto has now agreed a five-year contract with Anderlecht, with both the club and his agent Pietro Allatta confirming an accord is in place.

"Silvio Proto will play for Anderlecht for the next five seasons," Allatta told De Morgen.

"Negotiations were on hold until 3am last night and were completed on Tuesday around noon."

While Anderlecht have reached a deal with Proto, they are still to concur on a fee with his club La Louviere.

Anderlecht are likely to have to pay in the region of ‚é¼625,000 for Proto, who only has 12 months remaining on his La Louviere contract.

Proto is likely to use his time at Anderlecht as a stepping stone towards a major European league later in his career.
