Borgetti annoyance for Big Sam

Bolton are still 'a long way' from capturing Mexican striker Jared Borgetti.

Bolton are still 'a long way' from capturing Mexican striker Jared Borgetti, according to boss Sam Allardyce.

The Trotters agreed a deal with Borgetti's club Pachuca last week, but, as yet, they have not sealed the 31-year-old's signature.

"Borgetti is a player I would like to bring to the club, but we are still a long way off doing a deal with him," confirmed Allardyce.

"We have found with the South American regime that it is very difficult to strike a deal.

"You get all sorts of mixed messages and as soon as there is any interest you are faced with five mandates, four solicitors and a number of agents claiming that they represent the player.

"Trying to do a deal like this is hugely difficult to conclude. We won't have any indication if a deal can be done until the player actually arrives in England. Until then, it is well and truly out of our hands."

Allardyce has been forced to stay home from Bolton's Asian Cup campaign in Thailand in order to try and seal Borgetti's signature, as well as pursue other transfer targets.

Meanwhile, Bolton captain Jay-Jay Okocha has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Qatar.

Bolton have already insisted that Okocha is not available for transfer and now the African superstar has confirmed he has no intention of departing The Reebok.

"It is the first time Bolton have been in the Uefa Cup and it feels great to be part of history," said the 31-year-old.

"I have been here three years now and achieved a lot in that time.

"Maybe I didn't live up to expectations last season but I am still enjoying it, and compared to my first season, I am having a great time.

"People have to remember it is a team game and I am really pleased, as a club, we are now where we want to be, competing with the best.

"It might have been unexpected to some but I know how much ability and ambition there is in this squad and the aim now is to stay where we are for a long time."
