Stags sign Pressman

Mansfield Town have signed former Sheffield Wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman.

Mansfield Town have signed former Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City goalkeeper Kevin Pressman.

The 37-year-old has signed a one-year deal to become the club's number one custodian for the coming season, as well as Mansfield's new goalkeeping coach.

Pressman joined The Foxes last summer after a long-standing Owls career that nearly lasted 20 years.

The keeper then joined Leeds United for a brief spell before finishing the campaign at Coventry City.

He has opted to drop two divisions to sign for The Stags, where he is reunited with former Wednesday team-mate and current Mansfield boss Carlton Palmer.

"I know exactly what he is like as a player and as a lad," Palmer told the club's official website.

"I am delighted that he has agreed to sign for us.

"I said to him we couldn't compete financially with other clubs that came in for him, but it is local and it would be a good chance for him to move into his coaching career."

Pressman's arrival looks set to be followed by the arrival of former Nottingham Forest defender Jon-Olav Hjelde.

The Norwegian centre back has already turned down an offer to join League One side Doncaster Rovers, having recently been on trial in Denmark with AGF Aarhus.

Hjelde's arrival comes after veteran defender Des Walker's plans for a football comeback were shelved by a hamstring injury.

The former England man will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
