Celta snap up Baiano

Celta Vigo have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano.

Celta Vigo have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano.

The newly-promoted outfit have pulled off a real coup in landing the 26-year-old, beating Galician neighbours Deportivo La Coruna to his signature.

Baiano spent the second half of last season on loan at Malaga and was a revelation, netting nine goals in just seventeen games.

Malaga were keen to land him on a permanent basis, but could not afford a deal to take him to La Rosaleda.

Impressed by his goalscoring exploits, Depor stepped in but after failing to conclude a rapid deal, that allowed Celta the opportunity to beat them to the punch.

Baiano is Celta's second capture of the week - with Argentine defender Diego Placente having signed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Valencia youngster Jose Enrique has vetoed his proposed move to Celta.

The Spain Under-20 international, who joined Valencia from Levante earlier in the summer, was expected to seal a season-long loan to Celta as part of the deal that took Uruguayan Hector Cannobio to the Balaidos.

However, the young defender has rejected the move, although both clubs are attempting to persuade him to change his mind.
