Adebayor in Monaco row

Emmanuel Adebayor is still at loggerheads with Monaco regarding a new contract.

Emmanuel Adebayor is still at loggerheads with Monaco regarding a new contract.

The Togo striker has threatened to quit the Principality club if his demands are not met, with Paris Saint Germain, Marseille and Arsenal all suitors.

Adebayor has now cranked up the pressure on the Monaco top brass by calling for more talks after alluding to a strained relationship with the club.

"I met vice-chairman Gerard Brianti," said Adebayor.

"The club agrees to prolong my contract for one more season but we are not agreeing about the financial level.

"We can't find an agreement. I met chairman Michel Pastor and he told me I didn't respect the officials."

The impasse is likely to continue as Monaco insist they will not deal with Adebayor's agent because he is unlicensed.

With Adebayor under contract until 2008 at Stade Louis II, vice-chairman Brianti also affirmed the club would not be hurried into a decision.

Brianti said: "Emmanuel is represented by Thierry Laborieux, who is not on the Fifa agents list.

"We can't talk with that man so I won't meet him. We are in talks with Emmanuel and we considered his demands.

"But just because he has asked for the moon it doesn't mean that we will give it to him. He is still under contract at Monaco for three years - he must not forget it."
