Jones on the mend
Wolves goalkeeper Paul Jones is expected to return sooner than first thought.
Wolves goalkeeper Paul Jones has received some good news ahead of the new season, after finding out that his cheekbone injury is not as bad as first feared.
Jones suffered a heavy blow to his face in a friendly against Dundee, and it was feared that he would be out for up to two months.
However, the 38-year-old now hopes to be back in training as early as next week, which is sure to delight boss Glenn Hoddle.
Jones said: "Originally I was told I could be out for six to eight weeks but it looks like it could be less than that.
"I saw a specialist yesterday who said the damage wasn't as bad as first feared and that I could be back earlier than planned.
"I'm having an operation today which will remove a dent from the side of my face and all being well I'll return to non-contact training with Bobby Mimms next Monday.
"I'm normally a quick healer so I'm confident I'll be back soon, but it's up to the gaffer whether he rides with the youngsters for the first couple of weeks of the season or gets someone in on loan."
Wolves are already short in the goalkeeping department, with Matt Murray expected to be out until September with a foot injury.
