Schalke have ditched their interest in PSV Eindhoven defender Andre Ooijer. The experienced full back has returned to Philips Stadion after the collapse of his move to Genoa.
The Italian outfit had announced the signing of Ooijer but, after they were demoted from Serie A to Serie C1, the deal is now off.
Ooijer returned to Holland and had been in discussions with Schalke, who had concurred on a fee in the region of é¼1.5 million with PSV.
But the transfer will not be pushed through after Schalke broke off negotiations, with reports claiming Ooijer's fitness was an issue.
The 31-year-old has confirmed he was in negotiations with Schalke but refuted talk that a failed medical was the reason behind the deal's collapse.
"I have not left PSV but I have been honoured by the interest in me," Ooijer told the club's official website.
"I do not want to leave PSV unless the conditions are right and that was not the case [with Schalke].
"It's nonsense that it failed for medical reasons. I was also not present at the game Schalke played on Wednesday evening like the media had said."
