Denilson becomes Spanish

Denilson has secured dual Spanish and Brazilian nationality.

Real Betis magician Denilson has secured dual Spanish and Brazilian nationality.

Formerly the most expensive player in world football after his $35 million move from Sao Paulo, Denilson has been plying his trade in Spain for five years, and now qualifies for Spanish citizenship.

And the 27-year-old wideman believes that the news is positive for club and player alike.

"Getting a Spanish passport is good for Betis as it frees a place for the club to sign another overseas player," said Denilson.

"It also makes it easier for me in case I have to leave for another club because I now go as a European Union player."

Denilson's latter statement could hold major importance, after the Brazilian fell out of favour with Betis coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer last season.

It is believed that both parties are looking for a transfer for Denilson.
