Double blow for NAC

NAC Breda will be without Rob Penders and Ronnie Stam for the start of the season.

NAC Breda's preparations for the new season have been disrupted by injuries to Rob Penders and Ronnie Stam.

Defender Penders is struggling with knee and calf complaints, while midfielder Stam is being troubled by an Achilles problem.

The pair are set to go under the knife this week and will not be available for the early part of the Eredivisie season.

NAC coach Ton Lokhoff admits it is a blow to lose the pair, but is confident Penders will make a swift return to action.

"It is unpleasant, especially Penders," Lokhoff told BN/De Stem. "He is a key player in the centre of defence.

"But hopefully he will be back soon, so we will miss him just for the opening weeks of the season."

NAC kick off the season against Feyenoord on August 14.
