Ajax end Coco chase

Ajax have shelved their interest in Italian defender Francesco Coco.

The 28-year-old has been informed he can move on from Internazionale this summer and emerged as a target for Ajax and Olympiakos.

The Dutch titans confirmed they gave consideration as to whether to hand the Italian a contract, but believe his injury problems make him a risky proposition.

"Coco is one of the three or four big names who are offered to us daily," Ajax technical director Martin van Geel told De Telegraaf.

"We have made enquiries about him, but it's too risky. We have our questions with his physical level."

With Ajax seemingly out of the running, the path could be clear for Greek giants Olympiakos to push through a deal for the defender.
