Drobny leaves Strasbourg

Vaclav Drobny is set for a return to his homeland after agreeing terms with Sparta Prague.

Vaclav Drobny is set for a return to Czech Republic after agreeing terms with Sparta Prague.

The Strasbourg defender spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, however the 24-year-old failed to make a single appearance for the English club.

German side Nurnberg took the player on trial towards the back end of the last campaign but did not follow up their interest with a firm bid for the former Czech Republic Under-21 captain.

Drobny faced an uncertain future upon his return to Strasbourg and manager Marc Keller confirmed to L'Equipe on Monday that the player will not feature in his first-team plans.

The stopper will now be looking to resurrect his career at Sparta; the club where he made his league debut.

Drobny's agent, Dalibor Lacina, confirmed: "The transfer is almost done and it is likely to be completed by Wednesday."
