Has Danny Murphy been a success at Charlton? Have your say.

There was some surprise last summer when Danny Murphy opted to move from Liverpool to Charlton Athletic rather than Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the England international emphasised his powerful desire to work with an English manager and Addicks supremo Alan Curbishley was keen to integrate Murphy into his side.

It is fair to say that Murphy was Charlton's most consistent player last season. He was the only Athletic man to feature in every single Premiership game and he chipped in with seven assists, the 13th best rate in the entire division.

This was three more than in his last campaign at Anfield, an indication of his growing influence role at The Valley.

Nonetheless, Murphy's goalscoring did decline in his first season at Charlton. He scored at a rate of a goal every 380 minutes in his final season at Liverpool, a very respectable rate for a midfielder, but this grew to 1,083 minutes at Charlton.

Having forged his reputation as a goalscoring midfielder, this is something that Murphy will look to improve on in his second season in South-East London.

Indeed, his total of three goals last season was his worst since 1999-2000, his first campaign as a Premiership regular.

Murphy will be well aware that his chance of securing a place in Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad is likely to be smaller at Charlton than it would have been at a more fashionable Premiership side.

That said, if he can continue to pull the strings in the Addicks midfield and add some more goals to his game, it will be a brave decision to leave the crafty schemer back home.
