Arjan seals move
Wigan have concluded the formalities of their capture of Arjan de Zeeuw.
Wigan have concluded the formalities of their capture of Dutch defender Arjan de Zeeuw from Portsmouth. The strapping defender agreed terms and passed a medical on Wednesday, but it was not until Thursday afternoon that he was able to seal a return to his former club.
Pompey manager Alain Perrin could no longer guarantee De Zeeuw regular playing time at Fratton Park in the new season and he had little hesitation in making the move to The JJB Stadium.
"I can hardly believe I'm back at Wigan but I'm absolutely delighted to return to a club I have so much time and respect for," said the 35-year-old after penning a one-year deal
"My first spell here was hugely enjoyable and it was a great honour being the skipper for most of that time. Returning to work with (manager) Paul Jewell is a big factor in me joining Wigan again.
"My final season here was his first and I knew then he would go on to have great success. I have no doubt he has what it takes to prove everyone wrong and keep us in The Premiership."
