Bolo slaughters Lamb
Bolo Zenden has blamed Keith Lamb for his decision to leave Middlesbrough.
Liverpool new boy Bolo Zenden has laid the blame for his Middlesbrough departure squarely at the feet of chief executive Keith Lamb. The Dutch midfielder ended his successful spell at The Riverside over the summer to move to Anfield on a free transfer, and, in a twist of fate that football so often throws up, returned to his old stamping ground for the first game of the new season on Saturday.
As anticipated Zenden sustained abuse from the Boro fans after rejecting a new deal with the Teessiders, although he has now elaborated on his decision to move to Rafa Benitez's side.
The 29-year-old accused club official Lamb of making it hard for him to continue at Steve McClaren's side despite his desire to stay, meaning he was then open to a move when The Reds approached him.
"You have to be realistic - people forget quickly," said Zenden.
"I had two fantastic years here and last year I was the player of the year as chosen by the fans.
"It is down to Keith Lamb trying to save his own face by blaming everything on me.
"He is the one that made the decision last year and made it very difficult for me to stay.
"Liverpool came in but that was only at the end when things were obviously not going to work out with Keith Lamb.
"I don't want to get into details, but it is clear that I had had a fantastic season, I had enjoyed it at the club and I did not see anything that should have stood in my way to stay.
"But Keith Lamb made it difficult and then Liverpool came in and the choice was two clubs, one in the [UEFA] Champions League and the other in the Uefa Cup. I made my choice."
