Gills move for young Hammer

Gillingham have signed West Ham United teenager Moses Ashikodi on loan.

Gillingham have eased their striker crisis by signing West Ham United teenager Moses Ashikodi on loan.

The League One side have been looking to add to their attack before the close of the transfer window.

The situation became more pressing after Darren Byfield was sent off towards the end of Saturday's draw at Scunthorpe United.

Ashikodi has answered Gills manager Neale Cooper's plea for a new forward and has moved to The Priestfield Stadium until the end of the year.

The 18-year-old has yet to make his Hammers debut but has experience of league football having made five substitute appearances for Millwall earlier in his career.

He trained with Rushden & Diamonds during pre-season but was unable to earn a move to Nene Park and has now signed for Gillingham.
