Clinton move still on cards

Harry Redknapp is still hopeful of luring Clinton Morrison to St Mary's.

Clinton Morrison could yet become a Southampton player, according to Saints manager Harry Redknapp.

The Republic of Ireland international has attracted a lot of interest from teams in The Coca Cola Championship, after expressing his dissatisfaction at being fourth choice at Birmingham.

Sheffield United, Norwich and Crystal Palace have all expressed their interest in Morrison, with the latter two sides having made offers for the striker.

Southampton have also tabled a bid, and although Norwich are so far the only team to have agreed a fee with Blues, Harry Redknapp is remaining optimistic that Morrison could soon be plying his trade at St Mary's.

"I am hoping we still have a chance of getting him. The chairman is working on it and that's all you can ask," Redknapp told his club's official website.

"Norwich are the only ones who have agreed a fee but I don't think he wants to go there or else they could not settle terms.

"I have not spoken to him yet because we have not had a bid accepted. But I am hoping that will change. I would not say we were favourites (to sign Morrison). I believe we have made a similar offer to Palace and if it is accepted then I can speak to him and try to persuade him to come here.

"The good thing is we are still in there and still trying. The chairman is working on it and I am hoping we can get him. I still feel we need another striker and wide man who can keep the ball and help us pass it."

Redknapp would dearly like to add Morrison's attacking prowess to his squad, although there was certainly no lack of goals as The Saints smashed three past Southend in the League Cup on Monday.
