Bordeaux have swooped to sign Brazilian winger Denilson from Real Betis. No details of a fee have been released, but the player has signed an initial one-year deal at Stade Chaban-Delmas.
The 28-year-old has found himself increasingly marginalised in Spain, and is desperate to prove his worth ahead of next summer's World Cup, and force his way into the Brazil squad.
Once the most expensive footballer on the planet, Denilson made just 10 appearances last season as he battled back from a series of niggling injuries.
Betis have now decided to cut their losses on the enigmatic wide man and have agreed a permanent transfer with the Ligue 1 outfit.
His representative Antonio Barrera confirmed the deal and revealed his charge was delighted to have the chance to press his World Cup claims in France.
"We have reached full agreement and Denilson will move on a permanent transfer to Girondins (Bordeaux)," he stated.
"He is very happy, his objective is the next World Cup.
"To play in that is the most important thing for him and for that reason he accepted the offer from Girondins."
Turkish minnows Vestel Manisaspor had recently claimed that they had landed the player on a year's loan - so they are likely to be disappointed by the news that he will play in Ligue 1.
