Mackay issues quit threat
Derby director of football Murdo Mackay has launched an outspoken attack.
Derby director of football Murdo Mackay has launched an outspoken attack on the club's chief executive Jeremy Keith.Mackay was left incensed after Derby's board, led by Keith, concurred on a deal that saw the departure of Grzegorz Rasiak to Tottenham.
The talented Polish hit-man proved a pivotal player for Derby last season as they reached the play-offs but has now been off-loaded in a £2 million deal - concluded just before Wednesday's transfer deadline.
Mackay believes Keith is too hands-on in his involvement in footballing issues at Pride Park and it has now reached a point whereby he has has been forced to consider his own role at the club.
''I'm very disappointed at the way the Rasiak deal has been handled and it is a reflection of what I believe is wrong with the structure,'' said Mackay.
''The deal was virtually agreed when the manager and myself first heard of it.
''Jeremy is a talented individual but I do not think his talents lie in football.
''He wants to be heavily involved on the football side and that is his right but you do not need two directors of football.
''If the board see it that way and I have to move on then so be it.
''It's not what I want but at the end of the day Jeremy Keith calls the shots.
''The first phone call about Spurs came at 7pm and I thought it was a wind-up.
''We had been working hard to keep Grzegorz at the club but when he was told about Tottenham, he wanted to play in The Premiership.
''We have lost a very good player.''
