Poulsen upset with Schalke loss

Christian Poulsen was disappointed with Schalke's start to the Champions League.

Schalke midfielder Christian Poulsen was disappointed with the club's start to their UEFA Champions League challenge.

The German outfit slumped to a 1-0 defeat at last season's semi-finalists PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening.

The performance from Schalke has already drawn criticism from the club's general manager Rudi Assauer and Poulsen was also unhappy with the showing.

The Manchester City target admits Schalke had travelled to Holland fully expecting to pick up at least a point.

But Schalke left Philips Stadion empty-handed, leaving Denmark international Poulsen to reflect on a shoddy first half display.

"It was a regrettable start to the Champions League," Poulsen told Ritzau.

"We had hoped for at least a point. We didn't play well but PSV were certainly not frightening.

"We didn't play well in the first half when they got to score their goal.

"But in the second half we played better but it was not enough."
