Allen wants Best back
Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dave Allen wants Southampton's Leon Best back.
Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dave Allen says he would buy Southampton youngster Leon Best out of his own pocket. The Hillsborough chief is keen to bring the striker, who turns 19 on Monday, back to the South Yorkshire outfit.
Best started the season on loan with The Owls before suffering a foot injury that ended his temporary spell with Paul Sturrock's side.
The teenager is close to recovering from the problem and Wednesday may be set to take the player back on loan, with the Championship side having scored just three goals in their first seven matches.
"If Best became available, I would personally buy him," Allen said.
Meanwhile, Saints midfielder David Prutton now faces up to six weeks on the sidelines after scans confirmed he broke the second metatarsal bone in his foot.
There were initial thoughts the former Nottingham Forest man would only miss a month of action.
However, the St Mary's club have confirmed the 24-year-old will be out until the end of October.
