Cole: Normal fans staying away
Joe Cole has warned Chelsea they are alienating the club's fans with high prices.
Joe Cole has warned his Chelsea pay-masters they are alienating the club's normal fans after the London side were criticised for rising ticket prices. The Blues fans voted with their feet as under 30,000 people attended their opening UEFA Champions League fixture against Anderlecht, as prices at Stamford Bridge now range from £45-60 for the average fan.
The Premiership champions also attracted criticism as they doubled ticket prices for their disabled support before the start of the current campaign.
England international midfielder Cole has now entered the debate by stating that Roman Abramovich's outfit are running the risk of failing to attract a new batch of young supporters if they persist with their current policy.
"The club have got to find a way of filling the ground," said Cole.
"The normal fan cannot afford the prices.
"We have to attract a new generation of fans to come to Stamford Bridge."
