Pardew warns Marlon

West Ham boss Alan Pardew has warned Marlon Harewood he must keep on scoring.

West Ham boss Alan Pardew has warned Marlon Harewood he must keep on scoring if he wants to keep his place in the side.

Harewood netted his fourth goal in two games with the opening goal in the 2-1 win at Fulham.

Pardew has been impressed by Harewood's recent form, but warned him he must maintain his form or risk being dropped.

"It was a great finish for Marlon's goal. Since he's been at West Ham he's shown he has a subtle ability and plenty of skill," said Pardew.

"Sometimes he's rash but he's learnt his lessons from the first few games of the season.

"His all-round game was terrific today. He doesn't play to his maximum at times - his concentration needs to be full-on, which it has been since we've come up to the Premiership.

"I told him he needs to take his chances because Bobby Zamora is itching to play. They're good friends but Marlon has kept his place and delivered the goals.

"There's not much to choose between Bobby and Marlon. McCarthy coming could have threatened Marlon's position, there's no doubt about that, but he's stepped up to the plate."

Pardew was full of praise for his players after they recorded their second win in a week.

"We wondered if our energy levels would be able to cope today, but they did," added Pardew.

"I'm really chuffed with the performance of individuals and the team. The workrate was phenomenal.

"A lot of the team were stiff leading up to the game so there was a concern over how well they'd play. But fair play to them, they really opened up in the second half.

"We went out and brought a lot of young players and have gone into the Premiership with youthful exuberance. The lads want to express themselves. A couple of the guys are London wide boys and they've taken that onto the pitch."

"The fans are enjoying themselves at the moment because they have a lot to shout about, but the sticky days will come. Our ambition is to finish as high as possible and there is a buzz around us at the moment."
