Chevanton: I will not return

Javier Chevanton says he will not play for Uruguay boss Jorge Fosatti again.

Monaco striker Javier Chevanton has stated he will not play for Uruguay while manager Jorge Fosatti remains in charge.

The former Lecce hit-man was left out of Uruguay's squad for their final two South American World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and arch-rivals Argentina.

Fosatti's squad likely need maximum points in their final matches to have any chance of claiming an automatic qualification spot.

Their current fifth-place position could see them facing another two-leg play-off with Oceania qualifiers Australia, as they reached the last finals in Korea and Japan by seeing off the SocceRoos in a similar play-off back in 2001.

Chevanton's omission has upset the 25-year-old, who has declared he will not play under Fosatti again.

"While Fosatti remains at the national team, I will not play anymore," stated the Monaco striker.

"I am a number one fan of the national team but after what Fosatti has done to me, I am not going to go back while he is there.

"They reserved me for playing the next two games, one of them is a derby match (against Argentina) that every player wants to play, but then he decided to leave me out without any true explanation.

"He said that I was injured and that isn't true, I have been playing.

"Then he said to the press that he had spoken to me and explained the situation and that's not true because nobody spoke with me, it's all a big lie."
