Gera dispute looming

Lothar Matthaus has blasted Bryan Robson's decision to ground Zoltan Gera.

Hungary coach Lothar Matthaus has blasted West Bromwich manager Bryan Robson's decision to prevent Zoltan Gera from travelling to join up with his squad.

Gera has been struggling with a groin strain and Robson deemed it wise to keep the player in England while he undergoes further treatment.

However Matthaus, whose side face World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria in Sofia on Saturday and Croatia in Budapest on Wednesday, feels aggrieved.

"West Bromwich have prevented us doing our job again," he told a Budapest press conference.

"We received the information that Zoltan is unable to play for two to three weeks even though he played 90 minutes in West Brom's last game so we would like to examine him too if his injury is really so serious.

"If it is [serious] then it is inexplicable that they don't allow him to join us so we could make sure of it too.

"We believe Gera should arrive at our training camp tonight [Tuesday]."

The dispute may even force Fifa involvement as Imre Bozoky, the president of the Hungarian Football Federation articulated.

"We informed Fifa about the case. We hope that they make a fast decision about the case and we'll be the right side," added Bozoky.
