Ascoli handed fan ban

Ascoli will play their next two home games behind closed doors after recent violence.

Ascoli will be forced to play their next two home games behind closed doors as punishment for crowd violence which erupted after their 2-1 win over Sampdoria on Saturday.

57-year-old retired nurse Ambretta Piergiovanni, at the game with her son and future daughter-in-law, was rushed to hospital with serious cuts after she was hit in the face by a firecracker thrown into the away end of the Stadio Del Duca.

A 16-year-old Ascoli fan has admitted responsibility for the incident, and an 18-year-old has also been arrested after acting as an accessory.

Now the Marche-based club will have to close the turnstiles as they entertain Udinese and Fiorentina.

Ascoli have also been handed a fine amounting to approximately £7000.
