Latics flop eyed by old club

Wigan misfit Andreas Johansson is being chased by former club Djurgardens.

Wigan Athletic misfit Andreas Johansson is being chased by former club Djurgardens.

The Sweden international moved to The JJB Stadium in a £450,000 switch in January but has struggled to make an impression.

He has made just two substitute appearances in The Premiership and has not figured at all during Wigan's stunning run of form over the past few weeks.

That has prompted his old side to explore the possibility of a deal when the transfer window reopens in January.

Though Johansson is under contract to The Latics until 2008, Djurgardens are keen to take the midfielder back to Sweden.

Whether Wigan boss Paul Jewell would be prepared to offload the 27-year-old is unclear, particularly as he wants to ensure he has a squad containing enough depth to see out the season.

Meanwhile, Djurgardens are continuing their plans to add to their squad by making another bid for Orgryte striker Ailton Almeida.

The Brazilian has now been the subject of two failed bids from Djurgardens, with Orgryte unwilling to sell Ailton to another Swedish club.

Orgryte sports director Stefan Allback told Sportbladet: "It is correct that Djurgardens has shown renewed interest in Ailton but we are not considering selling to Djurgardens or any other Allsvenskan club."

Djurgardens chairman Bo Lundquist will now look elsewhere, commenting: "Ailton is a very skilled player but we have to accept the 'no' from OIS.

"There are other interesting players we are checking."
