De Vlieger content at City
Belgian keeper Geert De Vlieger insists he is not unhappy at Manchester City.
Geert De Vlieger insists he is not unhappy at Manchester City and is determined to prove his worth to Stuart Pearce. The Belgian goalkeeper has yet to make his debut for the Premiership club since moving to The City of Manchester Stadium in the summer of 2004.
A knee injury kept him out for much of last season, while he has been operating as a back-up to David James this term.
With James recently signing a new contract at City, there have been suggestions that De Vlieger will quit the club at the end of the season.
But, while De Vlieger is uncertain where his future lies, the 34-year-old is adamant his situation does not mean he is unsettled at City.
"The question of my future was asked to me by a Belgian journalist after David James had signed his new contract," De Vlieger told the club's official website.
"With my contract expiring at the end of this season I will look at how it goes because I still feel I have something to give back to Manchester City after last season when I was out injured."
Despite his contentment at City, De Vlieger is aware that, if he signs a new contract, he will again be playing second fiddle to James.
He added: "If there's another extension to my contract I know it will probably be as back-up for Jamo who is performing well at the moment and clearly proving his first team place.
"There are still a couple of nice months of the season left, so we will see how things go between now and the end of the campaign.
"It must be clear that I'm not unhappy as some of the newspapers made out over here."
