Pompey return for Angell

Portsmouth have appointed Brett Angell as the club's new youth team coach.

Portsmouth have appointed former striker Brett Angell as the club's new youth team coach.

The former Fratton Park trainee returns to the club he left 18 years ago to replace Mark O'Connor, who left to join Championship side Stoke City.

Prior to his appointment at Pompey, Angell was coaching in the academy set-up at Premiership rivals Bolton Wanderers and in charge of the Wales Under-19 squad.

Angell enjoyed a much-travelled playing career following his move away from Portsmouth in August 1987.

The striker had spells with a number of clubs - including Derby County, Southend United, Everton, Sunderland, Walsall (pictured), Rushden & Diamonds, Port Vale and Queens Park Rangers.

His playing career also included two spells with Stockport County.

Angell will report to youth development officer Dave Hurst and manager Alain Perrin in his new position, with Perrin delighted to have the former Pompey hit-man in their backroom staff.

"We were very impressed with Brett's credentials and he has played the game at a professional level for many years," Perrin told the club's official website.

"Already, he is a highly-regarded coach at this level and is going to be a great asset to our younger players, given all his experience."
