Bayern Munich striker Roque Santa Cruz faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.The Paraguay international tore ligaments in his right knee during Bayern's 2-1 win over Cologne on Saturday.
Santa Cruz is now set to fly to America to undergo an operation on the problem and he is expected to be sidelined for five months.
The news is a massive blow for Bayern as they compete for honours in Die Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League.
Bayern boss Felix Magath was left to lament the injury to Santa Cruz.
"This is a catastrophe for Roque and us. He was in good form and scored several important goals," Magath said.
