Roberto Carlos has revealed Wanderley Luxemburgo told him to take the penalty against Real Zaragoza ahead of Robinho.Roberto Carlos struck the only goal of the game against Zaragoza on Sunday from the penalty spot after Robinho missed an earlier spot-kick.
Robinho won the second penalty and wanted to take the kick to make amends for his earlier miss.
However, after consulting Luxemburgo, Robert Carlos stepped up and took responsibility for the penalty.
"The pressure of the supporters and because of the failure from the first penalty the coach (Luxemburgo) decided I should take it," said Roberto Carlos.
"It is true, although Robinho wanted to shoot."
The Brazilian defender admitted they struggled against Zaragoza because of their midweek European exertions.
"The effort of Europe is hard," added Roberto Carlos. "We are playing many matches and it is normal that we were not at our top form."
Roberto Carlos admitted he hopes to see Jonathan Woodgate back in action after he was forced to limp off with a new injury.
The Englishman was forced off with a new thigh problem and is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks.
Roberto Carlos is hopeful he will be back soon as he believes he is vital to the club.
"On the field I was worried about the injury, but the news is a of quick recuperation," said the full back.
"He is a great player that Real needs in the team."
