England Under-21 boss Peter Taylor has outlined the difficulties in juggling two jobs.

England Under-21 boss Peter Taylor has outlined the difficulties in juggling the responsibilities of managing both at club and international level.

Taylor himself managed to achieve promotion with Hull City whilst leading England to the brink of the European Under-21 Championship.

Darren Ambrose's late equaliser gave Taylor's side a chance as they head for the second leg in Nancy, although the French, having scored a vital away goal, have the upper hand.

Speaking after the match the England manager noted the difficulties of handling dual responsibilities - a role which it has been rumoured Sam Allardyce could fill.

"It's Under-21 level so it's a little bit easier," said Taylor. "I find it okay. If you're manager of a senior team then winning is the most important thing.

"As a nation, at times, you don't worry about how they play - it's if they win. I think the Under-21s is a bit different to that.

"On the senior level it's more important on the scouting side of it, whereas I don't get time to go scouting at Under-21 level."

Asked directly whether it was possible to combine the two jobs, he commented: "Personally I would say no to that because I've no doubt that if the Under-21 job was full time I would do it even better.

"You'd cover more things, look at every new player about, so I would say the senior job has even more than that."

Taylor's team did well to keep the tie alive as they had a number of key players out through injury.

"We're showing we've got a lot of good young players coming through. We've shown that by having the amount of cry-offs we've had and still to put the team out we did."

Taylor also noted the difficulty of any more of his team joining the likes of Darren Bent and Kieran Richardson who have broken into the senior side.

"If you go to the World Cup finals, nine times out of ten it's the teams with experience who do well, so it is going to be very hard for anyone to break into the senior team from the Under-21s.

"There have been four players that have got into the seniors in the last four months so you never know. Michael Owen had one game and went straight to the World Cup, that is what could happen."
