Lizarazu's advice for Klinsmann

Bixente Lizarazu believes Jurgen Klinsmann should change his strategy.

Former World and European champion Bixente Lizarazu believes Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann should change his offensive-minded strategy in favour of a solid defence if the hosts want to be successful at next summer's World Cup.

Klinsmann has suffered a mixed set of results during Germany's friendly programme and Bayern Munich defender Lizarazu feels a change of approach is required.

‚Ç£If you look back into history, the genuine quality of German football was based on their success in one-to-one situations," the Frenchman, who has retired from international football, told Kicker.

"They've had tremendous defenders and defensive midfielders and the Germans won because they succeeded in most tackles.

‚Ç£And that's why it is so dangerous if Klinsmann thinks so much about the offence, while at the same time, his team is struggling in the back.

"Germany would need players like [Martin] Demichelis or [Claude] Makelele, who are just perfect defensive midfielders.

But Lizarazu is still confident that Klinsmann and his coaching squad are going to adapt their strategy over the next months.

‚Ç£However, they will soon realise the problem and than they still have eight months to sort it out.

"Generally speaking, it's fantastic that in German football a young coach was given the chance to lead the national team ,‚Ç¥ stressed the 35-year-old.

Germany will have the chance to listen to Lizarazu's advice as they travel to Paris on Saturday, where they meet France at Stade de France.
