Anton staying cool

Anton Ferdinand is keeping calm after supposedly impressing Sven Goran Eriksson.

Anton Ferdinand is keeping his feet on the ground after supposedly catching the eye of Sven Goran Eriksson.

The West Ham man looks to have stolen a march on Michael Dawson as the senior partner in England's Under-21 defence, although he is not getting carried away by speculation suggesting that Eriksson is keeping a keen eye on his progress.

"I will just go back to West Ham and prepare for the game against Tottenham," he said.

"I love playing against very good strikers week in, week out."

Ferdinand also revealed that he was livid at the way in which England were bundled out of the European Under-21 Championship by France, claiming that the opposition were unsporting and should never have been awarded a penalty.

"I'm angry, but it's the emotion of it when you're out there and someone has done what they have done," he continued.

"You feel it isn't right. They were trying to get players booked and that isn't fair play in football. The referee was right in front of the penalty. He saw what he saw and he made his decision. For me, it was the wrong one."
