Gerrard happy to be team player
Steven Gerrard insists he is happy to play anywhere for the good of the team.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard insists he is happy to play anywhere for the good of the team.Gerrard has been employed as a right-sided midfielder in recent weeks for Liverpool, with Momo Sissoko and Xabi Alonso paired in the centre of midfield.
For England, Gerrard has also been played out of position having ended last weekend's win over Argentina at right back having started wide on the left in Geneva.
Gerrard has no problem at being played in different positions as long as he is successful.
"As long as managers are picking me in the side I don't see it as a problem," said Gerrard.
"When I'm in the starting XI it is a confidence boost for me and everyone knows ideally I like to play in an attacking midfield role.
"I can look at it selfishly and sulk and think I'm not playing in my strongest position or I can be a team player and try and do a job for everyone involved.
"That's what it is about nowadays, you can't afford to think about yourself and be selfish.
"It's all about winning trophies as a team and being a team player and that's what a few of us have found."
Meanwhile, Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry believes the club's participation in the World Club Championship could enhance their chances of seeking investment.
Talk of investment in the European champions has intensified after Parry met American businessman Robert Kraft.
Parry admits the club are still looking for a major cash injection and that next month's tournament in Japan could raise their profile even further for interested suitors.
"Everyone knows we have been looking for investment for some time," said Parry.
"We're not talking about a quick fix but about securing the future of the club and helping to take us to the next level.
"The more success we achieve on the field then the more success we'll enjoy off it. It's self-fulfilling.
"Going to Japan will be a great platform for us. We'll be there as European Champions, playing in front of full houses and to a wide TV audience.
"Our stated goal has always been the same and will remain the same - to win trophies regularly and to be successful."
