Rix receives Pressley backing
New Hearts boss Graham Rix has been given the full backing of his players.
Hearts captain Steven Pressley has assured new coach Graham Rix that he has the full support of the squad. The appointment of Rix provoked an angry outcry from supporters, but the manager is confident that players will give him a chance to prove himself.
"It is always difficult when you don't know the names of the players straight away and you are suddenly faced with around 20 new faces," he conceded.
"But I spent four hours with Steven Pressley on Monday night and he said to me 'I am telling you now, gaffer, you won't have any problems with the guys here. The spirit is great and they are delighted to have you here.'"
Rix, who previously coached Chelsea, claimed that taking charge of Hearts was one of the biggest and best things he had ever done in his career.
"I have had loads of challenges throughout my career but I have to admit this is the most excited I have been in football for years."
Rix has the task of making sure Hearts maintain the flying start they made under George Burley, which sees them currently level on points with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premier League.
