Juventus restored their five-point lead at the top of Serie A after a 3-1 win over Treviso.

The visitors had the temerity to take the lead at Stadio Delle Alpi when Francesco Parravicini scored after 25 minutes.

But Juventus were ahead by the interval after Adrian Mutu equalised on 37 minutes and the in-form David Trezeguet netted on 43 minutes.

After equalling Giampiero Boniperti's club scoring milestone in midweek, Alessandro Del Piero now holds the record outright after notching Juve's third on 82 minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Bottom club Cagliari gained an overdue win as they beat Sampdoria 2-0 at home to record their first victory in Serie A this season.

David Suazo scored in each half to enable Cagliari to move off the foot of the standings.

Internazionale are keeping the leaders in sight after they won 2-1 away to Messina, with Alvaro Recoba opening the scoring on seven minutes.

Esteban Cambiasso scored the second on 58 minutes before Messina snared a consolation 20 minutes from time through substitute Arturo Di Napoli.

Fiorentina lost ground on Juventus after drawing 1-1 at Roma. Roma led early on through Damiano Tomassi, but the game swung the Viola's way just past the hour when Philippe Mexes was dismissed for a professional foul.

Mexes' foul led to a penalty, which Luca Toni tucked away for his 16th goal of the campaign. Fiorentina could not capitalise on their numerical superiority to clinch victory.

Lazio picked up a thrilling 3-2 triumph at Empoli, who had Fabrizio Ficini sent off for two yellow cards 10 minutes from time.

The visitors went ahead on 28 minutes through Ousmane Dabo before Empoli levelled on 54 minutes courtesy of Riccardo Bonetto.

Francesco Tavano's penalty on the hour put the home side in front, but goals from Igli Tare and Fabio Liverani in the space of four minutes handed Lazio the points.

Parma continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table after losing 2-1 at home to Udinese.

Paulo Barreto scored either side of the interval for Udinese, with Parma replying in the 89th minute through Bernardo Corradi.

Siena held on for a 0-0 draw at home to Reggina, despite having Gianluca Falsini sent off on 29 minutes.

Ascoli and Palermo shared a 1-1 draw, with the visitors opening the scoring through Massimo Bonanni on 36 minutes and Marco Ferrante levelling on 52 minutes for the hosts.
