Dudek may leave Liverpool
Jerzy Dudek may leave Liverpool in January to secure a World Cup place.
Jerzy Dudek may leave Liverpool in January to make sure he is getting regular football ahead of the World Cup.The goalkeeper has been kept out of the side by Jose Reina since the Spaniard's arrival on Merseyside, putting his place in the Poland team in real jeopardy.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez is unlikely to play Dudek unless Reina is sidelined through injury, but the Pole has announced that he is not satisfied being second choice.
"I told him that situation does not interest me," Dudek told his homeland press.
"I don't want to be counting on an injury to a colleague and that places me in a tough situation.
"I played most of Poland's matches in qualifying for the World Cup but if I don't play for my club I could wind up not going to the finals. For me that would be a disaster."
Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc filled in for the injured Dudek in Poland's last World Cup qualifiers in September and October, and increased the pressure on the Liverpool man with some impressive performances.
Dudek has been linked with Benfica, with coach Ronald Koeman expressing his interest in the 32-year-old.
