Spurs to try new Cesar move

Tottenham could buy Antonio Guayre in order to secure the signature of Depor's Cesar.

Tottenham are reportedly considering buying Antonio Guayre of Villarreal in order to secure the signature of Deportivo La Coruna's Cesar.

Spurs are looking to fend off rival Premiership interest in Cesar and in order to secure the 28-year-old defender - they could go down the unusual route of signing another player in order to do this.

Spanish international Guayre (pictured) is ready to quit Villarreal and Deportivo are known admirers, with coach Joaquin Caparros looking to bolster his attacking options.

Spanish sources are now insisting that Spurs will indeed beat Deportivo to the signature of Guayre - in order to broker a deal with them for Cesar, and in the process beating Bolton and Middlesbrough to the central defender.

Deportivo are insistent that they have not yet received an offer that is acceptable to them.

"The offers that have arrived for Cesar are not value for us because they do no interest us," said president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro.

Despite the Lendoiro comments - Spurs are said to be hopeful that their pursuit of Cesar will be fruitful.
