Schwarzer eyes English draw

Middlesbrough's Mark Schwarzer is hoping Australia draw England in the World Cup.

Middlesbrough keeper Mark Schwarzer is hoping Australia draw England in the World Cup finals, as he is certain the Oceanic nation will take all three points.

The last meeting between the two nations was a shameful 3-1 loss for England in February 2003 as Sven Goran Eriksson experimented with a range of players.

The Premiership boasts a number of Australian stars, and Schwarzer, hero of the penalty shoot-out against Uruguay, says he is confident that Australia can mastermind a defeat of his adopted home if the two are drawn together.

Leipzig hosts the draw on December 9, and the Boro keeper says Guus Hiddink's side have nothing to fear in England after their play-off success.

"If we get England in the World Cup then I'm pretty confident that it will mean three points for Australia," Schwarzer told Super Goals.

"We played them on English soil and beat them a couple of years ago so our track record is pretty good.

"The response over here since we qualified has been great and I suppose it adds to the Aussie-English rivalry a bit."
