Bayern set to sign Dos Santos

Bayern Munich are close to clinching a deal with midfielder Julio Dos Santos.

The highly-rated 23-year-old arrived in Germany this week hoping to finalise the deal, just days after Bayern had played down reports linking him with the club.

"Yes, he's in Munich right now and we are considering inviting him for a medical," general manager Uli Hoeness confirmed to Bayern's official website.

The Bundesliga leaders are expected to invest around ‚é¼3 million in the playmaker, the majority of which will go to Dos Santos' current club Cerro Porteno. Spanish outfit Cadiz will receive a small amount after he signed a pre-contract with them.

If the Paraguayan does sign during the January transfer window the pressure would increase on Germany skipper Michael Ballack to make up his mind about his future.

Bayern have offered to extend Ballack's contract, but his uncertainty has led to a host of clubs vying for his signature, with Real Madrid leading the chase.
