Season KO for Bolo

Dutch midfielder Boudewijn Zenden has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Liverpool have been dealt a blow with the news that Dutch midfielder Boudewijn Zenden will play no further part in the campaign.

Zenden was one of the players brought to the club in the summer by Spanish tactician Rafa Benitez and he had made a steady start to life at Anfield.

He damaged a knee against Real Betis at the end of last month and was initially ruled out for four weeks.

However, the problem has turned out to be more severe than initially thought, with cruciate ligament damage set to keep the midfielder on the sidelines until the summer.

Zenden is due to fly out to America this weekend to see revered Colorado-based specialist Dr Richard Steadman.

Surgery has been pencilled in for Wednesday, with The Reds scratching the midfielder from their plans for the remainder of the campaign.

Darren Potter has joined Zenden on the sidelines, with the midfielder set for a two-month spell of inactivity after fracturing a vertebrae in his back against Manchester United's reserves.
