Boro join Meite chase
Middlesbrough are reported to have leapt to the front of the queue for Aboulaye Meite.
Middlesbrough are reported to have leapt to the front of the queue for Marseille defender Abdoulaye Meite. The Ivory Coast international is said to be unhappy with his current situation at the Stade Veledrome - despite clear the air talks with boss Jean Fernandez earlier this month.
Meite has been tracked by Bolton for well over 12 months, while Birmingham failed to convince him of the virtues of a move to St Andrews last month.
Everton are also showing an interest, but Boro are believed to have opened talks with l'OM about a possible move - likely a loan.
Some French sources even claim that Meite could very well travel to Boro's Rockcliffe Park training HQ for a trial this week.
However, the 25-year-old is likely to be required for Marseille's Uefa Cup clash with Dinamo Bucharest on Wednesday meaning it would be difficult for him to fit in a trip to England.
If Meite is not involved against Dinamo then he could travel to the North East, although with the French winter break coming this weekend - a more likely date would be next week.
Meite is primarily a central defender, but he can also ply his trade at right back - which could appeal to Boro boss Steve McClaren.
