The Crystal Palace right back has been ordered to rest up as he tries to overcome a long-standing pelvic problem.

Butterfield has been suffering after the area around the bones became inflamed, and it is hoped that a brief period of inactivity will cure the soreness.

The former Grimsby Town star missed most of last season with a niggling hamstring problem and news of this latest setback will come as a further blow.

"I was just getting back into it and this has come out of nowhere," he said. "I'm very disappointed, but there's not a lot I can do about it."
