Griffin leaves Edgeley Park

Stockport County have parted company with defender Danny Griffin by mutual consent.

Stockport County have parted company with defender Danny Griffin by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old leaves Edgeley Park less than a year after joining Chris Turner's side on a free transfer from Dundee United.

The Northern Ireland international has been hampered by injuries since his time with the League Two club, with Turner keen to get the player off his wage bill.

With the transfer window set to open next month, Stockport have allowed Griffin the chance to find pastures new, having had recent trials with Scottish Premier League sides Aberdeen and Dunfermline Athletic.

"We have known for a while that the manager wanted me out of the door," Griffin said.

"I didn't play as much as I would have liked to have done, but everyone at the club and the fans were fantastic to me about the injuries I had.

"I wish them all the best and hope they pull away from relegation.

"I'm going to go home and have a good Christmas with my family and we'll see on January 1.

"I've got my fingers crossed, but there will be a lot of movement in January, so it'll be a testing time."
