Severin snubs Dons deal

Scott Severin is set to leave Aberdeen after rejecting a new contract.

Scott Severin is set to leave Aberdeen after rejecting a new contract on account of the club's fans.

The midfielder's current deal expires at the end of the season and he had been offered terms to stay at Pittodrie.

But the 26-year-old is unwilling to commit his future to The Dons partly due to the abuse the team have received from supporters in recent weeks.

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood has confirmed one of the reasons for Severin shunning the offer and admits the deal is no longer on the table.

"It's bad news that Scott is not willing to accept the contract we have offered him, so we have decided to take it off the table," said Calderwood.

"He has a few private reasons for rejecting it and it's a major disappointment for us that this has happened.

"One of the reasons he is not prepared to sign on again is to do with the amount of stick the boys have been getting lately."

Severin could now leave the Granite City in the New Year, with Calderwood prepared to listen to offers for the midfielder.

He added: "Scott will have a look at his options, but we have given him our best offer.

"It's a gamble for the player, but he will not be put on the transfer list because I am under no pressure whatsoever to do that.

"If an offer came in for Scott then we would have to talk about it, but I don't think there is any way we want to be losing him unless we have to."
