Rams open Tudgay talks

Derby are looking to head off Sheffield Wednesday's interest in Marcus Tudgay.

Derby County are looking to head off Sheffield Wednesday's interest in Marcus Tudgay.

Although Wednesday are yet to make a formal bid for the 22-year-old, it is reported that they have already informed County of their interest.

Now Rams boss Phil Brown is looking to extend Tudgay's present contract, which is set to expire during the summer.

"We've spoken to Marcus's agent about a new deal," he told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"We are unbeaten in five matches and the players are on top of their game, so there will be interest in our players.

"It is my job to make recommendations to the board about the players. If a certain figure is offered for a certain player then my recommendation will be 'yes, we will accept that'.

"If the figure is below that value, then the player will stay at Derby. That's business."
