Manchester United midfielder David Jones has left Preston in order to join NEC Nijmegen.

The England Under-21 international had been on loan at Preston but has now decided to join Dutch outfit Nijmegen between now and the campaign's close.

Preston had hoped to keep the promising schemer in The Championship but the player has concurred on a sojourn abroad, rather than extending his stay at Deepdale.

''David Jones will be leaving Preston North End,'' Preston boss Billy Davies told the club's official website.

''He informed me yesterday that he will be joining NEC Nijmegen in Holland on loan for the remainder of the season.

''We would like to wish him all the best and thank him for his efforts.''

Jones made 25 appearances for Preston since arriving from Old Trafford in August, establishing himself as favourite amongst the club's supporters and management.
