Monaco unhappy with Adebayor
Monaco striker Emmanuel Adebayor has failed to return to Stade Louis II.
Monaco striker Emmanuel Adebayor could be in trouble with the club after failing to return to Stade Louis II following the winter break. The unsettled forward did not show up on Monday as intended after being given some time off while Ligue 1 shut down over Christmas.
Adebayor was due to join up with his team-mates on Monday to prepare for Thursday's clash with Auxerre before flying off for the African Cup of Nations.
However, Adebayor did not return to training and he is set for showdown talks with the Principality outfit.
Adebayor could now be handed a heavy fine by Monaco and club executive Jean-Luc Ettori confirmed they will take action against the giant striker.
"He should have returned on Monday and then left again after the match on Thursday," said Ettori.
"But I have had no news and he is not answering his mobile telephone.
"In my opinion he will not return, despite us trying to fit our plans around him - he will be severely punished."
The news has intensified speculation that Adebayor could be on his way out of Monaco during this month's transfer window.
A number of clubs are believed to be waiting in the wings to sign Adebayor if Monaco decide to cash-in on him.
West Ham, Bolton, Manchester City and Marseille have all been linked with the Togo international and they will be watching developments at Monaco closely.
Meanwhile, Monaco striker Ernesto Chevanton faces a spell on the sidelines through injury.
Chevanton is set to undergo surgery on a knee problem and is expected to be out of action for up to a month.
