Imps to smash club record

Lincoln City are hoping to smash their transfer record with a bid for Jonathan Parkin.

Lincoln City have tabled a club record six-figure bid for Macclesfield striker Jon Parkin.

Although The Silkmen insist that the imposing young striker is not for sale, they have admitted that every player has his price and could therefore be persuaded to let him leave Moss Rose.

Chester have already had a £50,000 bid snubbed by their Cheshire rivals, although The Imps have stepped up their interest in Parkin and are prepared to offer a three-year deal in a bid to make him their new record signing.

With their coffers swelled by the £150,000 transfer of Gareth McAuley to Crewe, City now look firm favourites to land Parkin, who has notched eight goals in his 14 appearances to date this term.

"The fact we've made, what we feel, is a substantial offer for Jon Parkin shows that this football club is serious about brining in quality players," chairman of football Ray Trew told the Lincolnshire Echo.

Imps boss Keith Alexander has identified the former York City sharp-shooter as the man to spearhead his attack alongside returning hero Simon Yeo and, when his future with the club is resolved on Thursday, he is expected to continue in his pursuit of the Macc man.
