Vale close on Doherty

Port Vale are closing in on the signature of former Fulham winger Sean Doherty.

Port Vale are closing in on the signature of former Fulham winger Sean Doherty.

Vale boss Martin Foyle wants to add the 20-year-old to his squad as soon as possible, but his attempts to tie up the deal have been hampered by the Dutch FA's closure over the festive period.

Doherty left Fulham to join Dutch outfit ADO Den Haag at the end of last season but the move failed to work out and The Valiants are now exploring whether or not they will be able to sign him permanently or just on loan.

"It is something I am trying to do, but without the green light at the other side it has been hard to move," Foyle told The Sentinel.

"It is awkward because Fulham have a sell-on clause which they are trying to hold to, so it is very technical. The lad has potential, but he needs games."
